Police in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have warned drivers about the dangers of having passengers hang out of their car windows or sunroofs to promote safer driving practices. The message is very clear: a substantial fine of Dh2,000 is awaiting anyone caught in the act.
The authorities stressed the serious risks connected to these daring activities on social media. Such acts put other drivers on the road in danger in addition to risking the lives of individuals within the vehicle. Such behavior is wholly inappropriate because there is a significant risk of major injury or perhaps life-threatening circumstances.
The General Department of Traffic of Dubai Police, headed by Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, stated that “these kinds of acts put other road users' lives in danger in addition to the lives of the persons involved”.
He restated that offenders of the Federal Penalty Law would be subject to harsh punishments, including a 60-day vehicle confiscation,
a Dh2,000 fine, and 23 penalty points. The cost of releasing a detained car can reach Dh50,000.
This severe warning follows the release of a video by Dubai Police that showed kids hanging out of windows and sitting dangerously on moving car roofs. Car owners should prepare for an additional Dh50,000 for returning their confiscated vehicles as if the Dh2,000 fine wasn't enough.
Abu Dhabi Police are asking everyone to fasten their seats up and remain safely inside their cars to create a more responsible and safe driving culture. Above all, let's maintain the safety of the roadways while still making them enjoyable!
