In a surprising turn of events, an Indian expatriate, who had worked for the Abu Dhabi-based hypermarket chain Lulu for 15 years, stands accused of absconding with Dh660,000. The 38-year-old employee, hailing from Kerala, India, and residing in Abu Dhabi, was entrusted with managing the cash office at LuLu Hypermarket in Khalidiya Mall.
After finding a big shortage of money in the cash office, Lulu Group promptly notified the Abu Dhabi Police. Concern escalated when the employee failed to report to work on March 25, with his phone switched off, rendering him unreachable.
The company took the expatriate's passport to stop him from leaving the UAE, but they still don't know where he is. Also, his family (including his wife and two children) is also missing, which has confused the authorities and made them more suspicious.
In response to these events, Lulu Group International, with the assistance of the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, has filed a complaint against the expatriate with the Kerala Police.
